Basically it is like the VTSCADA, Wondweware, or OSI-PI Plugins for Excel to access the Historian directly.
And this is NOT the same as the data export to CSV scripting functionality. I Have used that many times, This is an option that is on the Excel spreadsheet end, many other big players have but Ignition does not. Custom SQL queries have limitations because of how Ignition splits up the tables

We are reviewing the option of creating an Excel Add-In using the Microsoft Office Add-ins (Web Add-ins) platform.
This is a slightly different approach to the older COM/VSTO Add-ins, which are native, Windows-only compiled code that runs directly inside the desktop application process.

VERY GOOD IDEA. We need an excel plug-in similar to Pi Datalink. This is what is missing to really allow our end-user to use the historian data as they want to do it. This is mandatory for both SQL historian and power historian.

Totally agree. This gap is a serious problem to get and manipulate data to provide value in a day to day operation. Hope this would be solved asap.
